Deafest/Cynd Split/Mountain Draught/2009 CD Review

Deafest are a band from Littleton Colorado that has been interviewed as well as had previous material reviewed by this zine, and Cynd is also from the same area, with both of their musical styles being nature orientated black metal, and this is a review of their 2009 split, we will start of the review with Deafest.

Drum programming ranges from slow, mid paced to fast beats, while the bass playing is kind of mixed down low in the mix and seems to follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast raw black metal riffs with some doom metal influences that also have a progressive edge to the softer parts, while the lead guitars have a shoegaze black metal style feel to them.

Vocals are mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams, while the lyrics are very nature orientated, as for the production it has a very dark and raw sound to it.

Now we will review the half from Cynd.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast with a good amount of blast beats, while the bass playing seems to be mixed down low in the mix and follows the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast raw black metal riffs and there are no guitar solos or leads present on any of Cynd's songs, as for the acoustic guitars when they are used on the outro they have a very dark sound to it.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics touch on nature orientated subjects, as for the production it is very dark and raw sounding.

In my opinion this is a great split album from Deafest and Cynd, with the songs from Cynd being the best since they have a more faster raw and primitive approach. Recomended song from Deafest is "Coniferous" and from Cynd "Wweorpan".
