Rev 16:8/Ashlands/AFM Records/2011 CD Review

Rev 16:8 are a band from Sweden that plays a very fast, brutal and chaotic from of black metal and this is a review of their 2011 album "Ashlands" which was released by AFM Records.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast and brutal drumming with a great amount of blast beats, while the bass playing has a very dark sound with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars, as fr t he synths which are only used on the last song they have a feel of a horror movie soundtrack.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very raw and brutal but still retain a great amount of skill and talent with some melodies being used at times as well as some weird distortion effects being used on one song and there are little to no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.

Vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and grim style growls with some occasional spoken word passages, while the lyrics cover Darkness, Evil, Armageddon and Satan with a more philosophical approach, as for the production it sounds very powerful, heavy and professional sounding which is rare for black metal of this style.

In my opinion Rev 16:8 are a very talented and brutal sounding black metal band, and if you are a fan of Swedish style black metal bands that are well known names in the scene, you should check out this band since they have enough talent to compete with Dark Funeral and Watain but a little bit more brutal than those bands recent recordings. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCUDE "Agenda" "A Study of Patterns And Habits" "The Chase' and "when Words Are Pbselete". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Ruins Interview

Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

Ruins was born in 1996 and plays rotten speed metal only for itself and a few chosen people that stick to the old, primitive evil!

How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous releases?

Listen to it and you will get an impression! I don't see so many musical variations within Ruins' discography. It's still the old black metal with only a few modern influences and 100% satanic and child-raping lyrics.

What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the new release explores? In three words: Satanization. Sinquizition. Sexism.

What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

Nothing but old, ancient, decayed and broken remains of anything created.

What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

Oh yes, I remember when Ruins played Wembley as an opener for the Rolling Stones back in 1978. That was a really, really killing show and Keith Richards was selling bananas to me while Mick Jagger asked for free copies of the next Ruins record. This was shortly after the shaped pic-split-15' with Creedence Clearwater Revival came out and I can still remember all the 20000 screaming girls during that night. Nothing can ever top this but my gig at Woodstock in 1969. Hey man.... you should be better informed before asking such questions!

Are there any plans for a tour in the future?

Yes, Ruins plays 20 stadium gigs in your hometown tomorrow – every single one just for the reason to fuck you deep in your tiny ass every damn night! This is the second time you should be better informed before asking.

Currently you are signed to Negative Existence, how did you get in contact with this label and how would you describe the support that they have given you so far?

Paige of Negative Existence contacted me one day in about 2008 and asked to re-release the demos on CD. The offer, conditions and communication were great, the demos were sold out anyway... so of course it was a thing to be done. I'm 100% satisfied with this label as they really WORK for the underground instead of you who produces a strange pile of paper like this one.

Are there any side projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?

As mentioned somewhere: Ruins is a one-man band. So – just in a natural way – Ruins will not exist without me anyway. You should be (the 3rd time) better informed before asking, haha, lousy, really lousy.

On a worldwide level how has your new release been received by underground metal fans?

The response was great but unfortunately you only hear or read the good reactions. If people get a negative opinion of you, they will usually spread it behind the back. Like you will do if you read these lines. But it's ok for me.

What direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?

Don't know. I hope to spread the same feelings with the same language and music among a very few variations for the whole existence of Ruins! If this path is left, Ruins wouldn't exist anymore.

What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Inspiration evolves from everything satanic, evil, offending and musically destructive and catchy. The true inspiration and initial start came in the Sping of 2006 when I listened to the good old Sodom and Tormentor demos + a lot of Venom. If that's what you can hear in Ruins... well, decide for yourself.

What role does Satanism or Occultism play in your music and how would you describe your views on these topics?

Yes, Satanism and occultism play an important role in the music of Ruins. My view on this is that it is nothing of anyone's business!

Outside of music, what are some of your interests?

Drinking, fucking, learning and falling on the nerves of strange fanzine-editors!

Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Yes, I honestly think that you're one of these stupid shitchildren who only want to have a fanzine because a few so called „personalities of the scene“ impressed you sooooo much that you had to satisfy your needs through cheap questions and make something important out of your DISknowledged being. No sorry, I have my reasons as your questions are only based on a general level and don't touch the individual base of bands – and I'm not only talking for Ruins here! I know the truth can hurt but if you feel sad: Send your mourning mail to: ruins@hotmail.de ! Anyway, thanks for letting me write some shit about Ruins. I wish you nothing but the worst with your 14 questions that are sent out to maybe another 100 or more bands/labels that think they have anything important to say!

Long live the true dedicated!!!

Die in heaven! 666

Deathcult/Cult Of The Dragon/Karisma Records/Dark Essence/2006 CD Review

Deathcult are a band from Norway that plays a style that I would describe as being Anti_Human black metal and this is a review of their 2006 album "Cult Of The Dragon" which was released as a joint effort between Karisma Records and Dark Essence.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast playing with a lot of brutal sounding blast beats, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful tone with a lot of fast riffing.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast fast raw Anti-Human Black metal riffs that are very heavy and brutal with some melodies and one song has a thrashy feel to it, while the lead guitars are very chaotic sounding black metal guitar solos.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams with some occasional Satanic and Demonic whispers, while the lyrics cover Satanism, Luciferian, Enochian Magick, Anti Christianity, hatred for humanity and black metal, as for the production on this recording it sounds very strong and powerful with all of the musical instruments having a very brutal sound to them.

In my opinion Deathcult are a very good anti-human black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Anti Human Anti Life" "Sieg Heil Satan" and "Man Of Kutu". RECOMMENDED BUY.
