Plagues are a band from Massachusetts that plays a very raw and primitive form of misanthropic black metal and this is a review of their self released 2013 ep "Darkness Reigns".
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being utilized at times, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful sound with heavy riffing that dominates throughout the recording , as for the sound effects they are only used on the first and last song and they bring a very dark, evil and avant garde sound to the recording.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast old school black metal riffs that are very raw and primitive sounding with some d ark sounding melodies being utilized at times and there are no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.
Vocals are all high pitched misanthropic black metal screams, while the lyrics cover dark themes, as for the production it has a very dark, heavy, old school, raw and primitive sound to it in the true black metal tradition.
In my opinion Plagues are a very great sounding raw and primitive misanthropic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Deep Red" and "Viking Funeral". RECOMMENDED BUY.
