Syphilitic Lust Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Well Syphilitic Lust is a band that started with Sardu (the drummer) and I (Inhaler) a few years ago. Originally the songs were going to be a solo record that I was gonna have Sardu play the drums on but as the songs started stacking up and we started to get other people involved and we decided to make it a actual band than just a record. Now we’ve been going strong since 2010 and have a bunch of different members mainly bassists come and leave. At one point we had another guitarist and a singer, but then later thought it would be better if I played and sang instead. While the other guitarist left on his own accord.

2.How would you describe your musical sound for those that have yet to hear the music?
Well if you have to categorize us we are basically a street metal band with a lot of influences from 80’s black metal. We like to call it Sleaze Metal cause of the we try not only to have fast parts but also like some mid-tempo parts that emphasize the sleaze aspect.

3.Can you tell us a little bit more about the song lyrics?
Our Lyrics have to deal with a number of things mainly fucking and hunting pussy. Also about living in New York City on the seeder side.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name Syphilitic Lust?
Well Originally we were calling ourselves Hot Jizz. This was when we had our original line up when we just two guitars and a drummer. Then one day Sardu came up with the name Syphilitic Lust I was for it but the other guitarist wasn’t into it. So when he left for his own reasons we were then called Syphilitic Lust.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe
your stage performance?
That’s hard to say cause we’ve played some small show in the past that were amazing cause of the vibe and how on point we were, mainly cause someone had pissed us off prior to going on stage. I’d have to say one of best ones we ever played was almost a year ago with Church Whip and Skullshitter. Which actually was recorded and we  put out as a live tape (Alive Sleaze).

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Very good question.. At them moment no, but we have had some tours in the past that fell through for one reason or another. Most likely down the line we’ll be hitting the road. Currently we’re going through another line-up change and we’ve been mostly focusing on that as well trying to record a mini LP.

7.According to the fb page the band works with both Challenge the Throne and Banana Hammock Records, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
Well Challenge the Throne is  the label that we are on, run by a good friend of ours Matty Kelly out of CA. We plan on them putting out our mini LP and currently we have a Single for our song Sleaze Patrol coming out early 2014.
Banana Hammock Records is my Label which I started years ago and mainly just put out vinyl and the two SL cassettes(the s/t Demo and Alive Sleaze).

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and underground metal?
We’ve gotten some good responses for not having toured. A lot of people in America (NY and other places). We seem to have some fans in Russia and the Chec Republic that have seemed to have some responses to our recordings over the internet. Eventually we hope to one day go to Europe and all that good stuff.

9.Are there any other musical projects going on these days?
Another interesting question… Well I have a Power-Electronics project called VISHANTI and I’m currently working on another project with a close friend of mine. Sardu is another band called SHOXX, which he was in with our last bassist Silkwood. Our current bassist (Genital Reaper) also does time in Harvey Milk.

10.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
I possibly see us getting more sleazier and more weirder, but we’ll always try and keep everything primitive.

11.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
This is kinda of a tough one..
I like a lot of different kinds of music and so do the other members. We’re mainly influenced by Venom, Bathory,Bulldozer, Hellhammer and early Celtic Frost. Also a big influence on us is stuff like  Voivod, Mercyful Fate, Morbid Angel and Paul Chain, but were also big fans of stuff like KISS, Thin Lizzy, UFO and ZZ-Top.
As of lately I’ve been into like southern Rock like Black Oak Arkansas and some 80’s glam stuff. I know Sardu is into a lot of the newer hardcore bands coming out.
Like I said we’re kind of all over the map.

12.Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?
Somewhat.  Some of my lyrics touch on these subjects.

13.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
I’m really into movies mostly Foreign horror. So are the other members. Some people have compared our music to this subject and I would definitely say that is a influence on our music and lyrics.  we’re also big fans of the Trailer Park Boys.

14.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
I like to say be true to yourself and stick to your beliefs and your values. Whatever they are.
and Keep it Sleazy.
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. Love is the law, love under will.
