Dark Managarm Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
Hello. Our new album is out on October 31 and since we have a few projects. At first, we will be present on several concerts in France, in our region, in Paris, but also in Belgium.
Many concert dates are being negotiated by the end of 2014 but nothing is sure yet.
In a second step, we begin to think for making a video clip with a title of our last album.
Otherwise, we are also in the process of composition for a new recording.
2.You recently released a new album a couple of months back, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction it has taken and also what are some of the things that you where able to do with the new album that you where not able to do with past releases?
It’s early to talk about what the realization of our new album can give us because it's only been out for two months.
Concerning the musical direction, our only desire was to make a Black Metal album that is compact, fast, brutal and consistent from beginning to end.
In our opinion, our direction remains the same as our previous realizations: just make Brutal Black Metal inspired 90s and without compromise!
3.Can you tell us a little bit about the lyrical content of the new album and go more in depth on the topics you have covered with the new release and also how would you describe your progress as song writers over the years?
The lyrical content is not really different than our previous achievements. If we see a difference this is in the overall construction of the album. On our old records, we had a topic per song. On this new album, we have a continuity between songs. Throughout the album, the nine songs tell a story : We describe the human arrogance and lies of religions that will make the Horned King will return to earth with its armies and legions of demons to destroy and dominate the world. Each song describes a passage of this story.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Dark Managarm'?
The Managarm is a gigantic wolf, powerful and uncontrollable. We find that this name characterizes well our music that we try to make bestial, violent and chaotic on CD but also on stage.
5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We had great experiences on stage, for example in Belgium or with ENDSTILLE. But for us every concert is a different experience and we take pleasure every time. So it is difficult for us to tell you that concert was better than another.
About our stage performance, we have war paint but we do not put unnecessary artifices. We want to be judged only on our music and our energy. We try to make a powerful impact as a fist in the face of public. We play the songs without letting the audience breathe. At each concert, people come to us for us they appreciated this impact, this shock.
6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We have plans in negotiation but nothing confirmed. I invite you to follow the news on our facebook page.
7.The new album came out on Iron, Blood & Death Corporation, do you feel they have done a lot when it comes to getting your music out there and also how would you compare them to Infernal Kommando, the label that has put out your past releases?
To be more precise, we changed label regularly. Infernal Kommando Records (IKR) takes out our first album “Victorious March”, Eisiger Mond Productions (EMP) takes out our EP “Diva” and Iron Blood & Death Corporation (IBDC) takes out our new album “Back From Hell” this year. Indeed, it is difficult to find a label in which to stay. IKR stopped making CD and has focused its efforts on Tapes. EMP stopped its activity. Our role is not to compare labels with each other but to thank all of them because they made sure that our music can exist. They all work differently but all helped Dark Managarm to produce his records. So we are very satisfied with all of them.
8.Early last year you put out a split with Nemesis Irae and Goat Perversor, what are your thoughts on the other bands that where a part of the split?
This split CD was an extraordinary experience with two exceptional bands. There are ten tracks on this CD with three different Black Metal way fromthe fastest to rawest. Goat perversor is a true black metal with a strong voice like Impiety and our Brothers from Nemesis Irae play a powerful and fast black metal. This is a really good record, with a nice production and which also has a real success!
9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to the newer material by fans of black metal?
As already explained, it’s too early to get feedback on our new album. But some echoes make us to think that "Back From Hell" is well received by the public.
We already have a name that starts to be known thanks to our previous productions and also thanks to the split CD. We hope that the new album will have the same impact.
10.What is going on with the other musical projects that the band members are involved with these days?
Today, members of Dark Managarm not have other plans. All are involved only in the development and promotion of our music.
11.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
We saw a change in composition in particular on the structure of the songs. You can already feel this change on the title track "Back from hell". But overall, we remain inspired by the 90s and want to stay on the same way : Brutal and fast!
12.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Black, Death and Thrash … Each of us has different influences.
It’s difficult to choose because there are too many groups that we appreciate. If you really want names I can mention: Dissection, Sacramentum, Massacra, Impiety, Dark Funeral, Absu, Angel Corpse, Belphegor, Bewitched, Sodom, Deicide, Destroyer666, Enthroned, Gorgoroth, Horna, Immortal, Cannibal Corpse, Setherial, Marduk, Slayer, Inquisition, Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, Impaled Nazarene, Panzerchrist, Funeral Mist, Hate Eternal, and many others …
For example, at this moment, I listen a lot the album "Blasphemers Maledictions" of "Azarath" or the album "War Upon Worship" of "The Furor".
13.How would you describe your views on Satanism and Occultism?
We are against all monotheistic religions that require men to be weak and subject to a cult. Generally, these religions appear when the man afraid of death and what it has after death. This is bullshit, we die and we rot is all! We do not really worship Satan, but its guideline where everyone can fulfill his desires and accomplish great things. We seek to denounce and fight against this crap.
14.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Sex! Otherwise, some of us are bikers. For my part I ride a Harley Davidson Road King. Our drummer has received awards in powerlifting. It is a strength sport where you have to lift heavy weights ... Our bassist plays "role-games" but on a human scale with real axes and swords in forests of northern France. I think his character is a dwarf!
15.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interveiw?
Thank you for this interview and for the interest. Good luck for the future.
